Year 8 Marsden Bay Camp 2014

Marsden Bay Camp 2014
Last week our year 8’s travelled up north to Marsden Bay Christian Camp. We were all excited to see what the campgrounds were going to look like and what exciting things we were going to do throughout the week. Like me, everyone arrived at school grinning from ear to ear.

When we finished loading the bus with our gear we all got on and got ready to leave. Waving goodbye to our parents as we left , I felt very lucky because I got to do no work for a whole week and instead hang out with my friends.  When we were on the road still on our way to Marsden Bay,  my friends and I ate some lollies. Once we hopped off the bus we saw that we were at a beach. We all thought that we were going for a swim but instead we were going to go for a long walk.

The walk was really tiring but the view was incredible. The track was really muddy and some people slipped, but luckily nobody got hurt.  As soon as we reached the end it brought us to a long road with nowhere to rest but luckily there was a patch of grass. We all had lunch and then walked down the road and to our astonishment another beach awaited. We all got to have a long and good rest. Some of us also got to go for a swim and hang out with our friends.

Finally we arrived at Marsden Bay Camp.  Our bus drove into the camp grounds everyone looked out the window and saw a really big flying fox as well as a waterslide. Everybody was really excited, they all wanted to go on it on the first day. When we hopped off the bus we unloaded our gear and placed near the deck. The moment we finished unloading the bus we immediately ran to our cabins.

As soon as we had unpacked everyone had free time. A lot of our year eight’s went to play on the volleyball court while some of my friends and I played basketball in the hall. We were all very excited for a week off school and just a week of fun. I hope every week could be like camp.

Obesity is a type of disease which is mostly caused in a little city in America called Indiana!! This disease is not just caused in Indiana it is also caused around the world. Obesity is one of the most biggest problems around the world because a lot people die from it.

Obesity is a type of disease when a person eats more than than they’re meant too!!
They have got a sedentary lifestyle & they also have a bad diet.

A lot of obese people become larger and larger because they are overeating and are extremely addicted to food. They eat a large portion of food everyday like Fizzy Drinks, Burgers, Fries, Ice Cream and a lot of other junk foods.

People are so big and obese in America that they have to make larger coffins for when they pass away. The youngest age for a obese person to die in the U.S was 11 years old. A lot of people die from this disease.

There are a lot of sicknesses and diseases you could get from obesity like, diabetes, heart disease, heart attack and sometimes you could be short of breath.

The first obese country in the world is Mexico, Second America and last but not least New Zealand. NZ is the third obese country in the world because a lot of the pacific people come here for a better lifestyle and live well. A lot of pacific Islanders are large because they eat a lot of cheap food which is like, Takeaways and all the deep fried food.

If you are a child and you are slightly overweight, you could actually lose all of that and start thinking about the future. You don’t want to become obese and have a bad diet or have a sedentary lifestyle!!!

Blues

I was really excited when Miss Vaafusuaga told me that I was going to take some drills with the Auckland Blues. The cool thing was that other student’s from my school were coming as well. When we arrived at Dunkirk we thought that the Blues were already there but instead they arrived a bit later.

As all the schools sat down, the only thing they looked at was cars driving into the car park. We didn't recognize it was the blues getting out of there cars until an old lady went to them and told them to come. A lot of the schools were excited to see players like Piri Weepu, Keven Mealamu and obviously the captain Ali Williams.  As soon as they got there the man that was running the event gave the mic over to the blues captain.

They had to introduced themselves and say there position, the funny thing was that the last thing they had to say was the women of their dreams.

The day with the blues was really fun. I hope you get the time to meet the blues!!!

Picnic Narrative Practice

‘’Isn’t it a blustery morning today’’I thought to myself. Walking down to the Pt England Reserve for our exciting school picnic I ran so hard I thought I was going to be the first one there, but I wasn’t!! We were only halfway to the picnic and I was already worn-out, “can I at least get a ride or something to the picnic I said” to myself . As I took a couple of more steps we reached the reserve, WOOOH!! I was really tired as I sat down huffing and puffing next to my friends. The beach looked beautiful as the tide rushed onto the shore.

As everyone gazed at the stunning site of the beach, all of a sudden a sea monster came thrashing out of the water everyone screamed and started to run everywhere. I was very anxious about the sea monster, no one had no idea what it was or where it came from. The one thing our school had to figure out was, is it a good monster or the opposite!!!

“CALM DOWN EVERYONE” shouted Mr Burt. The monster started to stroll on the shore and as it did it found a bucket and a spade and started to make a really gigantic sandcastle. The monster went inside the castle and guess what!!!! The sea washed the sand castle out and when it did the sea monster was nowhere to be seen. Our whole school rushed down to the beach to sea if the monster was really gone and it was.

At the end of the day nothing else went wrong, we had so much fun at the picnic as well. But what happened to the SEA MONSTER!!!!

Netbook Reflection 2012

It has been the best year for me using a netbook because I have learnt a lot of things I didn’t know last year. It has been challenging using a Netbook sometimes, but most of the time it has been awesome. The first time I got my netbook I was really excited , actually I was more than excited I was over the moon, I wasn't really but you know what I mean. It was the first time I had ever used a netbook, it was a little bit awkward because I was really excited to use it but I never really knew what to do.

The great thing about using a netbook is learning how to be cybersmart, you can be cybersmart by doing a lot of things like solving other people’s problems and knowing what to do when your internet is slow or something. It is really better than using pencils and paper, What would you prefer paper and pencils or a fantastic netbook? I already know your answer, it is Netbooks. It is really fun because we have a lot of working space’s like under a tree or recording inside a quiet room. I love writing story’s, narrative’s and recounts because when I was a little boy I liked to write with a pencil, that was where it all started.

I really get frustrated when my internet is really slow because all the work I did was not saved and that means that it was all gone. I think that the netbook’s need to be stronger and have stronger hinges because it is really easy to break, a lot of people’s hinges have come off and screen’s cracked. I am really lucky I don’t have any of those problem, I must be GIFTED.

I thank Mr and Mrs Burt for this opportunity for using netbooks.I really liked using a netbook this year. I look forward how next year is going to go.

My Toy Came Alive

While walking to the warehouse to buy a remote control helicopter with my dad we stopped for some ice cream. When we chucked our rubbish in the bin we carried on walking. As we entered the store my dad and I went to the toys section. I looked around to see if I could find the helicopter toy that I wanted. Finally I saw the toy, I was really lucky because it was the last one! I raced like Usain Bolt and then I got told off by one of the workers, so I started to walk fast. At last I put out my hand and reached for the toy and I GOT IT!!!! I was so happy that day.

When I got home I hoped out of the car and played with my toy outside. It was really fun because my cousin came over, he had a helicopter toy just like me and we both played together. It was nearly night time and my cousin had to go home for dinner and so did I. As I fell to sleep I heard a sound, it sounded really familiar. It was my helicopter, I couldn't believe that it was alive flying by itself. I knew it was alive because when I went to sleep I took the batteries out of the remote control and put them in the cupboard.

It was so cool that my toy which was the last one on the shelf came alive. I was so shocked that it flew by itself. I didn't know what to do with it, so I just left it and went back to sleep. When I woke up I saw my helicopter lying on the ground, I couldn't notice if it was broken or sleeping. I was about to pick it up when suddenly it jumped up and started to fly, it was so cool that my toy was alive.

Next time you see a toy would you buy it or leave it?

My Favourite Animal

My favourite is a parrot because it is colourful and it can fly. I wish I could fly one day. Parrots are one of the rarest birds in the whole wide world. Parrots are mostly found in tropical and subtropical regions. The greatest parrots are found in South Africa and Australasia. The cool thing about parrots is that you can actually teach them to talk like humans, not all parrots can speak human words. Parrots have one of the best minds around the world, by that I'm talking about animals.

Holidays

In the holidays it was OKAY, it was a little bit boring because on the first week of the holidays my sister Mauina went to Riverside camp. The thing think was fun was when I went to Otara to send money to Samoa for their white Sunday. We also got to eat there as well, I ate coconut bun and also a germane bun. If you don't know what a germane bun is and you would like to know, it is just coconut inside a crispy bun.

I had a lot of fun on that day I hope I can do it again. The next day wasn't very exciting because it was very cold and there was nothing to do except watch T.V. I was really hungry so I went and had some breakfast. After that I went to wash my face and brush my teeth. I hope my next holiday won't be as boring as the last one.

Sneeze

Sneezing happens to a lot people when they are sick or allergic to something. I sneeze a lot at home but never at school. Did you know that when you sneeze a lot of spit and sometimes your snot come out of you know what? When you sneeze you should cover you mouth with your hands or with your elbow.

Most people sneeze if they're allergic to cat’s or dog’s. I am very lucky that I am not allergic to dogs because they are my favorite pets. Did you know that everyone sneezes everyday.

When you sneeze a lot of stuff come out of your nose and mouth. I only sneeze if dust goes up my nose because that’s the only thing I’m allergic too. When you're close to someone and you sneeze on them, that person that you sneezed on will actually wipe it and walk away from you.

My solution to sneezing is that when you sneeze you can look at the sun and it will go away.

Holiday

In the Holidays I went to the HOYTS with my sisters and my mum to watch Brave. It was a really cool movie.  There were some scary parts and some cool parts in the movie. My favorite part was when the three sons turned into bears. They looked really funny. I would really like it if there was a second part of the movie.

When the movie was over we went for a big shopping at pak'n save. As we walked out of pak'n save my mum tried to call my dad. It took for a long time because my dad didn't pick up. Finally he came and we

My Favourite Athlete

Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world and was born on the 21st of August 1986. As he grew up in Jamaica he attended Waldensia primary school, from then on he started to show off his sprinting skills. Bolt ran in the annual national primary school competition. At the age of 12 he had become the fastest in the school at the 100 meter sprint.

Bolt comes from a country where reggae music started and I really like reggae music. Did you know that bolt’s first sport was actually cricket. He was a bowler, because he was so tall he tried out athletic sports like running. He was really good at running so he focused on it, but sometimes he would play cricket with his friend’s sometimes.

This year at the 2012 London Olympics Bolt competed in the 100m race and the 200m as well. The funniest thing about him is that whenever he is getting ready to race he was the tallest. He won 6 gold medals in the 2008 olympics and this year’s olympics altogether. Bolt really inspires me because he is the fastest man in the world, I really don’t like running but when I watch him I feel like going to the Olympics.

I wonder if I would run in the Olympics next time?

Olympic Games 2012

In the weekends I watched a lot of the Olympic sports mostly the men's racing. This morning I watched Nickolaus Willis race in the 100 meter race. Nick came third place, but at least it wasn't the final. Racing isn't my thing because I am to big and I suit something like shot-put or discus. My favourite Athletic sport is discus because last year I came 1st place.

Watching The Olympics

GUESS WHAT! The olympics have started and I am really excited. The Olympics are held in London and there are 300 events in 26 sports at the 2012 Olympics. So far I have seen Woman's weight lifting, Men and Woman's swimming, Rowing, and Gymnastics. My favorite sport is Rowing because New Zealand Came first. They are an undefeated team and a lot of rowers that race against them have changed their events because the kiwi boys are too good!!

The opening ceremony was the best that I had ever seen in my life. I wonder what the next Olympics is going to be like?!
